The world as we know it is a place of scarcity these days - a lack of hope, compassion, tolerance, peace and, in many regions, a lack of such a basic commodity as clean water. Art can make this lack visible, but it can do even more: it can inspire, act and change. With my PeaceFiction series, I want to do just that - raise awareness, broaden horizons and create a link between the longing for peace and the need to shape our world sustainably.
The motifs of PeaceFiction combine urban scenes from Hamburg - harbour cranes, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, people in motion - with surreal, colourful rainbows. The rainbow not only stands as a universal symbol of diversity, cohesion and overcoming opposites, but also for the cycle of water, the basic element of all life.
Each colour tells a story: of the resources that we must protect and of the hope that we can pass on. Water is the source from which life emerges - and peace is what preserves this life. Through the combination of realistic elements and exaggerated, utopian worlds of colour, the works of PeaceFiction are intended to create moments of wonder while pointing to a central message:
We have the power to instigate change when we work together - for peace, for water, for the future.
In a world that often goes round in circles, PeaceFiction aims to be an upward spiral - a call to action, reflection and the joy of sharing.
